Sunday Calendar: Oh My Deer

I'm drawn to the pretty watercolor washes on this 2012 calendar by Oh My Deer. (Wouldn't it be great in a big poster size?)

Keep track of my weekly calendar posts (and from years previous) here.

Hope you're having a lovely Sunday!

new pennants at rank and file!

fresh pennants in my handmade shop! new styles and new colors - and even some metallic gold. my new favorite is the cursive hello (that's hand-drawn by your's truly) and the new heather grey color. head over to check them out, and keep your eyes peeled for new garlands just in time for the holidays!

austrian brass

i came across this shop yesterday that specializes in mid century modern figures made of austrian brass. i don't know much more than that, but aren't they charming?

Sunday Calendar: Nouveau Designs

'Tis the season for the great 2012 calendar hunt! I love shopping for calendars this time of year - there are so many good ones. And so the search begins with this Amsterdam advent calendar by Nouveau Designs. I used to love peeling open flaps on advent calendars when I was little - so satisfying (and you could hardly wait for tomorrow.)

baby shower for arrow

I wanted to share a bit from Abby's baby shower at the beginning of October. I was excited to help welcome baby Arrow (who's due anytime now) with Abby's family and friends.

We were lucky to have great weather so food, drinks and gifts happened outside on the patio and the porch. Abby and I both wanted to stay away from the stereotypical baby shower activities,  so guests got their craft on with an arrow making activity in lieu of games.

We addressed envelopes (for easy thank you notes after) which were then drawn for little prizes. Craspedia in vintage milk glass vases made for non-traditional flower arrangements; fantastic cookies by my friend Brian for something sweet; local Joia sodas and cucumber water for thirst quenching; and favors with deluxe chocolate bars and DIY memo clips served as a going away treat.

time of the season

a while ago a friend of mine told me about this fabulous book called seasons by french illustrator blexbolex. the pictures look fantastic! this will have to be an addition to my children's book stash soon.

[photos via brainpickings - and check out their list of 7 nonfiction children's books, in which seasons is included.]

modern watercolor

today's release from the working proof is a cool piece by sasha prood. after a visit to her personal portfolio, i had to share her typography designs with watercolor. i love the juxtaposition of a medium that is usually flowing and loose with the constrains of sharp edges and hard lines of typography and geometric patterns. get the chevron repeat print at the working proof (15% of each sale goes to charity).

what i've been working on: flowers

a quick shot of one of the boquets i did for a wedding on saturday. craspedia and succulents - looks pretty fancy, right?

do or don't: braided rugs

farmhouse bedroom how-to at apartment therapy's marketplace
what do you think about braided rugs? in a lot of places they look too dated, though some part of me still likes them out of nostalgia. but if done right, they can still make a room. recently, i inherited a big neutral toned braided rug and was skeptical at first, but have really found that it's softened up a room that i was having a hard time "settling" since renovating our little house. as the dude says, it really ties the room together, man.

cute and cozy multi-colored cabin rugs

zippy blue braided rug from costal living (check out that floor, too)

target practice in an 80's farmhouse

an outdoor rug from wayfair

a bright white braided rug looks fresh

a handmade rug by the fabled needle
+ a faux braided rug
+ l.l. bean makes a classic
